Musical Director

We welcome as our new Musical Director Mr Kevin Hillier O.A.M. who has commenced conducting us this year taking over from Mr Kevin Morgan who has been with the band for almost 20 years.

Born: Cremorne NSW in 1952. Kevin attended schools in Barmera, SA, Charlton and Stawell, from where he joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1968 aged 15 years and 5 months.

Kevin joined the RAN School of Music where he studied Euphonium and Trombone before being posted to HMAS Sydney and completing 7 trips to Vietnam during 1971/72.  He was then posted back to HMAS Cerberus where he was a member of the depot band.

During Kevin’s time in the Navy he progressed through the ranks from Junior Musician to Lieutenant, and becoming a Music Director of the Fleet and HMAS Cerberus bands.  He served on HMA Ships Sydney, Melbourne, Stalwart and Jervis Bay, along with postings to both the United Kingdom to study with the Royal Marines and the Defence Force School of Music at Simpson Barracks, Watsonia.

After 28 years in the Navy Kevin went on to teach Instrumental Music in many schools on the Mornington Peninsula, along with conducting several theatre shows. He has been Music Director of Stonnington City Brass, and organised bands on behalf of the Victorian Branch of the RSL for the ANZAC Day march in Melbourne since 1996.

Along with music Kevin has been involved with the Melbourne ANZAC Day March since 1996, and been on the committee of Frankston RSL as Secretary or President of the Frankston RSL Sub Branch since 2008.
