Our Musical Director, Kevin Morgan, joined the band in August 2000 and has had a long and fruitful career in both professional and community music.
A former member of the Band of the Scots Guards in the United Kingdom he came to Australia in the mid 1980′s. Since that time he has been the musical director of many community bands including Coburg City Band, Footscray-Yarraville Band, Oakleigh City Band, The Beaufort Band and the City of Greater Dandenong Band. Kevin was also the Director of Music at Mazenod College, Mulgrave from 1989 to 1996.
In another music genres Kevin was also the first Orchestra Manager of the State Orchestra of Victoria, (now Orchestra Victoria) In 1990 he founded The Melbourne Sinfonia, and built it from a small chamber ensemble into a 45 piece orchestra, he has also conducted the Savoy Opera Company for three seasons of Gilbert and Sullivan, and has been guest conductor for Monash Philharmonic Orchestra.
A highly sought after player, Kevin is currently principal cornet of the Legends of Brass Band Melbourne, and also plays at The Hawthorn Band, and has adjudicated at music festivals and competitions both in Victoria and around Australia.
It is his exceptional musicality and score interpretation that has seen Kevin both conducting and playing in many bands and orchestras around Victoria.
